Photo Coaching
I have been doing photography for many years. For more than 20 years,  my sister Betty, and I owned a film processing lab. I have been helping our customers with their photographic questions and concerns. My goal was simple: to help them take better photos, be more relaxed and confident. I wanted them to be able to take better photos in real life, daily photo opportunities. The subjects were widely varied including family gatherings, events, nature and special projects, including the ubiquitous "science fair" photos. What I wanted to do is help the them take better photos, whether it was to learn the very basics, or tackle more technical projects, and still have fun and enjoy taking photos.

Benefits of Photo Coaching
   What You Need to Bring
A camera is to be provided by the client, and any necessary accessories. Film and processing are the expense of the student. Instruction will be adapted to the type of camera, film or digital, basic or advanced
Extra film, Batteries and/or Memory Cards. Film cameras or digital cameras  use the same basic photographic principles, skills will be adapted for either media.
A tripod is a great tool for the photographer. One should be used if available, but is not necessary for the session.
Your camera’s instruction manuel is helpful to bring  to the session for handy reference for your particular brand and model of camera.
Versatile clothing (for wind, fog, sun) in layers is advisable, as the Central Coast weather is changeable from hour to hour. Appropriate shoes for walking and mobility are advised. Remember a hat, sunscreen, gloves for warmth, water and/or snacks.
For Group Sessions basic mobility is required. Individual Instruction can be adapted for different levels of mobility. (Contact us for particular questions.)
Transportation is not provided. Participants will meet at predetermined photo locations, at a scheduled time. Participants may carpool if they desire, or use their personal transportation.
I am offering Personal Photographic Coaching to help the  photo enthusiast to improve their photographic skills, in the exact areas they feel would benefit their needs and interests, in the shortest  time. Why waste hours on a class or course that deals with subjects or techniques that the enthusiast is not really interested to pursue?
My goal is to assess the needs or interests of the photography hobbyist or enthusiast, and then tailor specific a lesson or teaching session to meet those needs and interests. The goal is to inspire confidence and enable improved competence quickly and to the exact needs of the enthusiast.
´Better photos for family activities or vacation/travel subjects.
´Improve skills with one-time use camera or point and shoot cameras.
´Improve skills with SLR (Single Lens Reflex) cameras, with improved technical knowledge of camera functions and operation.
´Improve skills and understanding of basic flash use, and lighting.
´Improve understanding concepts of available light photography.
´General concepts of composition and photographic style.
´The relationships of lens focal length and relative image composition.
The goal is to help the enthusiast improve his or her skills, as well as focus on the fun or enjoyment of photography. If one is less worried about the "mechanics" of photography, trying to figure out what to do, one can concentrate on the action, and enjoyment of the situation, and still capture the moment.
Locations for Personal Photographic Coaching Coaching  locations will be selected based on weather and/or student preferences. The Monterey Peninsula & Big Sur Coastal area has many very scenic and photogenic locations.
Such Locations as the Monterey Wharf and Harbor area, the shoreline along Pacific Grove Recreation Trail and Point Lobos are ideal for photographic locations  offering diverse and interesting settings for Photographic Workshops or Personalized Photo Instruction.
Weather and natural conditions on a particular day can influence the choice of a location. Seasonal fog and sun patterns can make a location within just a few  minutes drive, much more appealing on a certain day. Every effort will be made to provide a photo location that is safe, interesting and scenic. Lessons and/or workshop content will be adapted to the conditions, to produce the best photo and instructional opportunities.
(As a local scenic photographer for many years I find that there is almost always something interesting and photogenic in this area. Sometimes an unpredictable fog bank or clouds,  make for unexpected and dramatic images. That is the whole point of scenic photography. Go out and shoot, you never know what unexpected climate feature will change your original plan but yield interesting images.)
